Somewhere deep in the heart of Zambia the sun pierces the trees and hits the golden water, its surface like glass. The watery haze that had coated the mighty Zambezi River and edged onto shores shaped by the sands of time, dissipates, and the warmth and vibrant light stirs the slumbering wildlife in the National Park. As the world around you awakes, the sounds of Africa dance about your ears and you smile because you know your adventure has only just begun.

The river bank seems blessed with a beauty that’s indescribable. Hippos sit submerged, as if mediating, Waterbuck bow their heads to drink, and the warm, earthy African smell sets your mind at ease. For the first time, in a long time you feel calm, relaxed and drawn to this moment as if nothing else ever existed. Suddenly, you feel your guide’s hand tap your shoulder. You turn to see what he’s pointing at, catching a rippling of the water as its stillness is broken by a ridged, log-like tail. Your eyes scan the dark figure floating silently just a few feet from the boat, moving from its tail up towards the head until you make out its eyes staring back at you. Your guide whispers “crocodile”, and the hairs at the back of your neck stand up, your heart skips a beat and your mind begs the question “What will happen next?”
