Set within its own grounds of 30 acres, approached by a palm shaded driveway, in the foothills below Gaucín, Cortijo La Hoya looks out across an unspoilt valley towards Jimena de la Frontera. On a clear day you can see the foothills of the Atlas Mountains in Africa.

20 years ago La Hoya was renovated and extended significantly from the original farmhouse in the valley. Built in the classical Spanish style of a Cortijo (painted white with green doors and windows, all built around and looking into a central courtyard), the constructed area measures approximately 500 square metres.

It has the distinct feeling of a family house, rather than just a property for rent. There are several terraces both for entertaining and finding peace and quiet so it is ideal for large gatherings and family reunions of several generations. Hammocks, a croquet lawn, ping pong table, Badminton and Internet are all on offer. In the winter we have several open fireplaces and wood-burning stoves.

With six bedrooms on the ground floor, La Hoya is wheel-chair friendly. Pets also welcome.

The house provides spacious and comfortable accommodation for up to 16 people and is ideal for families and children. A large 70 sqm Hallway opens into the lovely central courtyard which we have filled with jasmine, plumbago, lemon trees, shrubs and night-scented plants. The main bedrooms and living rooms lead off the courtyard. Five of the bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms.

The seventh and eighth bedrooms are on the upper floor of the south east side of the courtyard, which has been designed as a children’s area. The walls have been painted with striking trompe d’oeils and the whole area has been decorated in the style of a Moroccan tent. They have their own sitting room, flat-screen TV, DVDs, a guitar and an electric keyboard.

There are three sitting rooms in all. From the hallway, a circular stone staircase leads up to a tranquil first floor drawing room, with an open fire and plenty of books, a card table, puzzles and almost every Board Game worth playing, and a writing desk. From its balcony one can see all the way to the Atlas mountains of Africa on a clear day.

The spacious main living room is double height with a large open fire, flat screen TV, Bose music system, a wide range of DVDs and Videos and another wonderful collection of books.

Besides the main Dining Room, there are three separate dining areas outside, each with tables and chairs capable of seating 16 people. There is a separate Laundry room with two washing machines and an Ironing Board.

The House has central heating for the cooler months and there are also two open fires and two wood-burning stoves. Besides the cavernous fridge/freezer in the main kitchen, there are two extra fridges on one of the terraces for drinks and an overflow fridge in one of the outhouses.

There is a communal tennis court located in Gaucin just 10mins away, on which you just turn up, they will provide tennis racquets at the house for anyone who wants to play.
